I Am Not
A poem I crafted driving at night in the cold and drifting snow for a creative writing class the following morning...
I Am Not
There is more to a
staircase
Than what meets
the eye
Stair by stair
They send us
places
We never thought
achievable
Some are spiral
Others switchback
Some go down to
lakes
Others up to
courthouses
Some are run-down
and rugged
Others grand and
never ending
Some made of wood
Others carved of
marble
They fill stadiums
And illuminate
movie theaters
They can provide
mattress sledding hills
Or even be golden
Another can lead
the way to heaven
Some of the
greatest leaders
Found a podium at
the end of one
A staircase that
changed the world
A staircase can
add levels to life
Ones I’d never
seen
A step of
appreciation I gained
For my sister is an
architect
And I am not
